Privacy Policy
This describes what MovieBlix stores about you, why, and the controls you have over it. It is a plain-language summary, not a substitute for advice from a lawyer about your specific obligations under GDPR or other privacy law.
What we collect
- Account info you give us: name, email, and a hashed (never plaintext) password, or your Google/Facebook profile ID, name, email, and avatar if you sign in that way.
- Usage data: your watchlist, watch progress, comments, chat messages, and any titles you've viewed.
- Payment records: a transaction reference, amount, and status from our payment processor, Paystack — we never see or store your card or M-Pesa details ourselves.
- Referral data: if you signed up via a friend's referral link, we record that link between your accounts so referral rewards can be paid out.
- Essential session cookies that keep you signed in and remember preferences like light/dark theme.
Why we collect it
To run your account, keep your watchlist and progress in sync, process Premium payments, pay out referral rewards, moderate community chat/comments, and send you account-related notifications (welcome message, payment confirmations).
Your rights
If you're logged in, your Account page lets you:
- Access & export — download a copy of everything we hold about you as a JSON file.
- Erasure — permanently delete your comments, chat messages, watchlist, watch history, and notifications, and anonymize your account record. Payment records are kept in anonymized form for financial/tax record-keeping, as most jurisdictions require.
You can also ask us directly for corrections or questions about your data by contacting the site admin.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies — a session cookie to keep you signed in, and a small preference cookie for light/dark theme and cookie-notice dismissal. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Third parties
Movie and series metadata comes from TMDB. Payments are processed by Paystack. Sign-in can go through Google or Facebook if you choose those options. Each of those providers has its own privacy policy governing the data they process on our behalf.
